Ha! Pardon me while I go off on an "...in the olden days..." but in the olden days when I was a lass, musicals like Oliver! had not only lengthy overtures, but interludes at the end of intermissions (yes they had 'em) too. Both the stage and the movie versions. And going to see the movies was sort of like the way it used to be flying. That is, it was an event. It was really, really nice. You got tickets, even. Got dressed up. I saw Mary Poppins in London in 1964 in a very fancy theater where we bought fancy programs and fancy ice cream was sold by women during intermission. It was an event. And so whenever I now go to a musical revival like South Pacific or How to Get Ahead in Business I choke up when they start with an honest-to-good intermission and love seeing the same in movies too. They will often suddenly have a screen with "Intermission" and you have to sit and listen to that interlude before moving on. Really. Check out My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, etc, etc.

And my I say I am SO glad your reviewers liked THE CHESHIRE CHEESE CAT. I agree completely with them about the writing as would my class as I recently finished reading it to them. It is moving up in my want-it-to-get-a-Newbery-recognition day by day. Read it to my class and they agree. (But just to say that it was cowritten by Carman Agra Deedy AND Randall Wright.)

Monica I ALLLmost remember those days! Except my parents hated going to the movie theater. We had to see everything on the Wonderful World of Disney. Even then - you realize how long Doctor Dolittle is? Whoa.

I am usually scrupulous about co-authors and illustrators in post names but this one was getting so long. I think I'm going to change it anyway. Thanks for the nudge!
